new Moto 360 smartwatch collection for 2015

WELCOME BACK (again) :)

Hey there! After a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong “summer break” we’re back and ready to get blogging about one of our favorite products: smartwatches!

There are so many exciting things happening in the industry that we couldn’t help ourselves.

One example: a new version of our favorite watch (so far) has just been released by Motorola — sleeker, smarter, and more customizable.

Another example: Motorola/Lenovo has also released a new concept called the “Magic View” that includes a small viewfinder screen on the band.  According to Ars Technica:

Smart Bracelet vs Smartwatch

Intel Mica bracelet

There are very few “sure things” when it comes to the wearables market. In fact, the only thing we know for certain is that we don’t really know anything yet. We certainly don’t know what’s actually going to catch on and become the next big thing in wearable technology.

As of right now, smartwatches have yet to become a major player in the consumer electronics market. Obviously we think that will change eventually. Fitness trackers are doing well, but they too have yet to really take off in terms of mass market popularity.

Basis Peak: A Smart Fitness Watch to Get Excited About

2 images of the Basis Peak smart fitness watch

There’s a very interesting new wearable device on the market, and it has a lot of people excited… including us. The Basis Peak, from Intel, is not a true smartwatch but it certainly has a lot of smart features built-in, like 24 hour fitness tracking and “habit based” coaching technology. And it’s set to get even smarter…

Health and fitness brand Basis is not new to the market but the Peak is said to be its first true industry game-changer. The waterproof device automatically tracks most of the important things you do, like sleeping, walking, running, and biking. Special lights on the back of the casing can track your heart rate and, somehow, even tell how much you’re sweating (weird, we know).

Cross Country: The Big, Fat, Cheap Chinese Smartwatch That Could Shake Things Up

the Chinese Cross Country smartwatch

I really like what I’ve seen so far regarding the Apple Watch. It’s truly a breakout product and could easily become the dominant wearable for 2015 and beyond. Good looks, powerful hardware, a beautiful display, and incredible software — not to mention a legion of Apple product fans just waiting to buy one ASAP — probably make the Apple Watch a can’t-miss offering.

But let’s face it: it doesn’t do everything and, given its high price, that could be a serious issue for many people.

The MOTA SmartRing: Like a Smartwatch for Your Finger

Hate having to constantly hold and/or check your smartphone?

Wish smartwatches were way smaller, lighter, cheaper, and more finger-based?

Want to look like a badass super-geek PIMP?

Then you need to take a good look at the new MOTA SmartRing, recently launched on Indiegogo. It’s like a smartwatch for your finger and it keeps people from “intruding on your time” as the company puts it.

Basically it vibrates every time you receive a call, text message, email, or social media alert.

It’s either a really innovative gadget or one of the funniest and most elaborate pranks ever perpetrated. We’re not quite sure yet but we’ll keep you updated.

Not an iWatch… but the Apple Smartwatch Is Here!

Apple finally unveiled its first smartwatch today. It’s not called the “iWatch” as had been expected — just the “Apple Watch” — but initial impressions are very, very good. This thing looks like a true powerhouse product capable of restoring Apple as the king of personal electronics.

We’ll be posting a bunch more about it later but for now here’s a quick hands-on video to give you an idea of what it looks like:

More here.

The new Moto 360: More than just good looks!

Other than the Apple iWatch, the most anticipated smartwatch in the world is the Moto 360 from Motorola/Google. After months of mystery, rumors, speculation, and impatient waiting  — and an insane amount of engineering work — it was finally released today.

It’s almost certainly the best smartwatch released so far. We smartwatch fans and gadget nuts are absolutely thrilled. In fact, here at SmarterWatches HQ we’re doing tequila shots right now.

The 360 is drop-dead gorgeous and packed with a hell of a lot of wearable computing power. It will definitely change the industry and, hopefully, give Apple a big run for its money.

The iWatch Is Amost Here (Maybe)… And You’ll Be Able to Buy It Someday (Probably)

not the iwatch

Almost certainly not the new iWatch

So apparently there’s a very good chance that Apple will finally unveil the first “iWatch” smartwatch in a few days.

Here’s what John Paczkowski of Re/code has to say:

“Apple now plans to unveil a new wearable alongside the two next-generation iPhones… on September 9… The new device will, predictably, make good use of Apple’s HealthKit health and fitness platform. It will also — predictably — make good use of HomeKit, the company’s new framework for controlling connected devices — though it’s not clear how broadly or in what way.”
